The Last Legacy
Adrienne Young
Synopsis: When a letter from her uncle Henrik arrives on Bryn Roth’s eighteenth birthday, summoning her back to Bastian, Bryn is eager to prove herself and finally take her place in her long-lost family.
Henrik has plans for Bryn, but she must win everyone’s trust if she wants to hold any power in the delicate architecture of the family. It doesn’t take long for her to see that the Roths are entangled in shadows. Despite their growing influence in upscale Bastian, their hands are still in the kind of dirty business that got Bryn’s parents killed years ago. With a forbidden romance to contend with and dangerous work ahead, the cost of being accepted into the Roths may be more than Bryn can pay.

My Review: There was one giant thing missing for me with THE LAST LEGACY. An epilogue, at the very least a little bit more of an ending.
You can’t give me a forbidden romance like this where there is so much on the line and so many things to put into place and knowing that these two characters are going to be running for their lives if they want to be together and you literally give me nothing at the end.
I mean, knowing Adrienne, I can assume what happens next. But I’d have loved to have seen it be actual canon to the story. But ya know, nothing is every perfect.
I love the way Adrienne writes characters and how she weaves together their stories. Though to be fair this time around I didn’t have a lot of characters to root for. It’s not that there weren’t a plethora of characters, it’s just that a lot of them were shit humans and I didn’t WANT to root for them. There were far too many things about the world of the Roth’s that just makes my stomach turn.
But I guess that’s the point. Which is why I don’t find that it was poorly written. Adrienne seems to really enjoy writing about complicated family dynamics and she does it well.
I think if you’ve enjoyed Adrienne’s writing in the past, you’ll enjoy this too.
